Vienna Coup

Playing technique. A kind of unblocking which makes squeeze possible. Usually used when hand do not have an entry. First, play a top card, to promote the opponent's card to be a top card in that suit, then perform squeezing.

South leads and cashes D A first, East can discard a small heart without problem of being squeezed, because South can win with the H A and promote the H Q, but there is no entry to hand to cash the H Q. The proper way is to win with the H A to avoid blocking, then play small diamond towards hand's D A, now East will be squeezed in both the spade and heart suits.
