Since March 30, 1999, AllAdvantage.com starts to pay its members for surfing the Web. Members agree to place AllAdvantage.com's "Viewbar," which is similar to the Taskbar in Windows, within their browsers. As users surf the Web, the company pushes advertising messages tuned to their interests as gauged by the sites they visit and the keywords they've typed in. For every hour of active online use, AllAdvantage.com pays 50 cents, up to 40 hours or $20 per month. It also pays members for referring friends and family. Within 120 days, members have bombarded AllAdvantage.com with email requests for the viewbar, and 2 million people have signed up for the service.

Later, there are more and more companies like Spedia.net, CashSurfer, etc., start to join this campaign, share the revenue with their members for web surfing.

The standard Surf the Net program offers a rate of about US$0.47/hour and up to 25% of referee's earning. Besides, Spedia provides a number of other paid services such as Play Games, Sign-up for Programs and Receive Emails as well as free redirect url service.
